Some tea...supposed to be good for you......

Some goddesses are puzzled by this...like me...

I want to be like Mikee, especially if the food that people want me to put in my mouth is GREEN!

I know that there are more nutrients in green stuff, and since leaving my mom's house, I've discovered that all things that are cooked and green don't have to be mush...I sometimes will eat the green guck I force feed my family.

But why does green tea have to be so GREEN? And smell like canned spinach water, ugh! It's like the poor little tea leaves jumped into the cup and committed suicide because they were embarrassed by the smell. I've read multiple articles and even a book or two about the benefits of tea, especially green tea, and they have assured me that green tea is not called green because of the color....couldn't prove it by my cup.

And it tastes like fermented spinach water as well. The only brand that tastes halfway decent so far is Tazo tea. I've got a whole lot of the Stash stuff I'm trying to drink because I want to support local business, but jeez, if I wasn't trying for this getting healthy thing it would be straight into the garbage. Aagh! Maybe if I hold my nose while I swallow?

90 days and counting from kicking the aspartame habit and switching to teas or waters....still haven't had a pain free day, but I'm not any worse so that's a blessing.

Maybe I can feed it to the jolly green giant? Oh, here sprout.....

A goddess puzzled by why it's green.

This one is going to take some getting used to, lady! LOL But the fact that you find Tazo halfway decent is proof that you don't dislike green tea. You dislike cheap (gathered at the wrong place at the wrong time, overdried, etc.) green tea.

I used to be part of a tea club, before (sigh) I could no longer have caffeine. And most decaf is an abomination, although I would consider drinking a really well done decaf from the pros who know tea.

I bet if you snooped around online you could find a seller of fine teas that will blow away Tazo and make you fall in love with tea. My favorite would probably be very bad for you--total addict of jasmine Oolong (the real stuff, not the sad substitutes you can find in grocery aisles.) You may want to look into white teas as well as green.

You'd think the stuff would be pricey but shock of all shocks, it's not. Well, it's not cheaper than grocery stuff but it's not going to break your bank. Back in the day I'd get two big bags (like coffee bags) of tea for about $15. It's probably a bit more now but when it's not bagged in the bleached, gluey bags o' death and brewed lovingly, tea can be amazing. And those two coffee bags worth of tea lasted me a long, long time.

There are also some local places that sell tea. Then you can talk to crazy people about what's good tea and what's not and why, if you're into that sort of thing.

This may be a good place to start. Good luck!

Oh, and btw you may want to go with milder green teas. Increasing the flavor and/or astringency will probably take you in the direction that's bothering you. Also, bear in mind that tea is light so the weights are a bit deceptive.

But looking, yes, prices have about doubled. Shopping around will be a good idea.

Oh oh oh and I think I have some really nice green tea in my cupboard that I can't drink. You can have it all. Unfortunately it's been there for a while (no, I didn't bring it here from the old house--it's not that old! LOL but it may have come from Montreal which was quite a while ago. The tea may have lost some of its nice character. Anyway.) We've got to get together soon. I have lots to share. Love you!

And then, of course, I forget to paste in the link. Duh!

More than the tea, their short and sweet section on preparing tea will be worth a read. You might really enjoy (or at least find less offensive) iced tea done right--not cooked in the sun but steeped in the refrigerator. The Tazo might be good enough quality that you might discover tea is good even in a yucky casing.

Thanks for the website. I haven't really been drinking tea as a habit since high school.

I loved various black teas then and would collect different types/styles/flavors and brew them up in my pot. My pot went away (read broke) in one of our many moves and ever since I've been doing the tea ball or tea bag thing when I want tea.

This green tea kick has been an experiment along with the banishing of aspartame from my diet to see if I can improve things by ADDING to my diet not just taking crap away. :) I've been drinking 3-6 cups of various types of green tea per day and am going to try to keep it up for 4-6 mos...I'm on month 2 now.

Just call us some weekend to get together. Our event schedule has been blown this summer because of the price of gas and how it's effected our budget :(

Is there going to be an August babies this year?

There is going to be an ABBB this year, but it's going to be smaller. How does the 16th sound? Better yet, I'll send out an email and see what's what with everyone.

Funny post.
The only green tea I really like is Salida, which I get at Trader Joes. I don't know if I like it, or I am just used to it.
Congratulations on your aspartame milestone. Aspartame is the devil whether it contributes to your pain or not. It's very bad for your inner flora (stuff in your gut) LOL
Cheers!
